Breaking the 10-Minute Barrier – The Future of Extreme Fast Charging

How close are we to fully charging an EV battery in just 10 minutes? In this session, Prof. Neil Dasgupta will explore cutting-edge advancements in extreme fast charging for lithium-ion batteries – an innovation that could dramatically accelerate EV adoption. Learn how new materials, manufacturing techniques, and diagnostics are helping to overcome the biggest challenge to fast charging: lithium plating on the graphite anode. Prof. Dasgupta will also introduce a breakthrough approach that enables fast charging even in sub-zero temperatures, solving two critical roadblocks to battery performance.

Neil Dasgupta is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science & Engineering at the University of Michigan. He serves as the Battery Tech Lead for the U-M Electric Vehicle Center and is also the CTO and co-founder of Arbor Batteries, Inc., an Ann Arbor-based startup focused on commercializing fast-charging battery technologies.
